The
Vasco Mayacina development, an 11-hectare urban
regeneration plan in the centre of Mieres, developed
land in an impoverished area (from both social and
urban perspectives) for residential use.
The recently finished development has provided nine
residential plots with a capacity for 711 affordable
homes.
The plan entailed a significant improvement of the
previously degraded urban fabric of the town centre,
replacing it with a street network that provides
links with other parts of the town, in turn giving
access to a greater number of services.
In this case, the plan has given place to residential
land use that provides well-equipped affordable
homes. Furthermore, it has also created an area
that boasts a new bus station, an underground car
park constructed beneath a public open space, and
a cultural centre. |
